About us


Foundation and History

  • The course for immunology was introduced for the first time in the six-years curriculum of the Faculty of Medicine in Skopje in the educational 1993/94 year. The course is part of winter semester of the third year (5th semester) with the total fund of 30 lectures (15 theoretical lectures + 15 practical lectures). In the very beginning entire theoretical and practical lectures were held by the professors and assistants of physiology from the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine and from the Republic Department for Transfusiology.
  • During the 1994 year elections were announced and first professor and first assistants were elected for the course of immunology. The first Cathedra for Immunology was constituted on 02.03.1995 year. As the first Chief of the Cathedra for Immunology was elected prof. d-r Perko Kolevski from the Republic Department for Transfusiology.
  • In the June 1995 year first book for immunology was published: The Basic Methods in Immunology as a guide for practical lectures of this course.
  • As a second Chief of the Cathedra for Immunology was elected prof. d-r Mirko Spiroski on 27.11.1997 year.
  • From the February 1998 years started continuous education from immunology as an Immunology School.
  • In the October 1997 year elective courses from immunology are included in postdoctoral studies of Faculty of Medicine and interdisciplinary studies of molecular biology and genetic engineering at the University "St. Kiril and Metodij" in Skopje.
  • The curriculum (Teaching plan) for the sup specialization of Immunology was accepted in June 1998 from the Educational-Scientific Council of Faculty of Medicine.
  • Educational-Scientific Council of Faculty of Medicine on April 22, 1999 year decided to lay foundation of Institute for Immunology (in progress) as a part of Institutes, Faculty of Medicine.
  • Registered as Institute of Immunobiology and Human Genetics (Reg. No. 412074/012, No 27-97 from November, 2000).
  • Creation of Macedonian Human DNA Bank (hDNAMKD) on July 2000.
  • As a first Director of the Institute of Immunobiology and Human Genetics was announced prof. Dr. Mirko Spiroski.

    Mission

    The basic mission of the Institute for Immunobiology and Human Genetics is to conduct teaching, health and scientific activities from the field of Immunology, Molecular Biology and Human Genetics and to unite individuals and institutions in the Republic of Macedonia for the purpose of accomplishing these objectives.

     

    Vision

    According to its character, the courses in Immunology, Molecular Biology and Human Genetics are specialized entities and they entirely comply with the conditions defined in article 15 from the Statute of the Medical Faculty in Skopje (The Institute is a working unit within the Joint Institutes, which is a specialized entity for performing certain health, teaching and scientific activities in accordance with its defined medical discipline).

    • Teaching activities are represented in all forms and degrees of education (high level, undergraduate, postgraduate, specialization, sup specialization, continuing education, and public education).

    • Health activities are realized in laboratory (diagnostic) immunology, molecular biology and human genetics for all individuals, private and public institutions.

    • Scientific work is carried out in all fields of immunology, molecular biology and human genetics by institutional, bilateral, state and international projects.

     

    Organizational Values

    Organizational values that are nourished by the Institute are:

    • Dedication, objectivity and equality toward all participants in education who have to learn all aspects of immunology, molecular biology and human genetics.

    • Quality, responsibility and speed in all laboratory examinations from immunology, molecular biology and human genetics since these values are indispensable for the patients.

    • Originality, creativity and anticipation in all scientific researches because they contribute to the general development of humanity.
